Ned and I had been trying for a little while to get me pregnant.  We went out to a Thai Restaurant for Valentine&#8217;s Day dinner.  Just the two of us!  Imagine that!  What babies we were!  27 years old, earnest little people dreaming about their first baby.  I was so clueless I thought I&#8217;d have a girl.  Ha!  As if.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t remember the Thai food although I&#8217;m sure I had Pad Thai because back then I was a Noodle Eater.  I do remember the romance that followed.  And the thing I remember the most was that at the best moment, I closed my eyes and I saw, in my mind, swirling black concentric circles with a burst of black in the middle.  I knew &#8212; or I felt, or hoped &#8212; at that moment that I had conceived.<\/p>\n<p>And of course Nat&#8217;s due date was November 14, but he has always had a rhythm of his own and he did not show us his beautiful self until November 15!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eighteen years ago today Nat&#8217;s life began.
