This is about a leg up!<br \/>\n<strong>House to Vote on Bill that will Cut Billions from Disability-Related Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tell Your Representative to <strong>VOTE NO<\/strong> on the House Budget Reconciliation bill.<\/p>\n<p>The House Budget Reconciliation bill is expected to reach the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday, May 10.\u00a0 Programs for <strong>low-income people &#8211; children, families, seniors, and people with disabilities \u2013 would be hit hard by cuts in the bill.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your help is needed to educate your Representative about the need for a balanced approach to deficit reduction.<\/p>\n<p>Some examples of cuts in the bill that will weaken programs serving people with disabilities and other low-income populations:<br \/>\nThe Medicaid program would be cut by $28 billion over 10 years through changes in provider taxes, hospital payments, maintenance of effort (MOE) requirements, and payments to territories. People with disabilities are likely to face decreased Medicaid eligibility and benefits as the states adjust to the reduced federal participation.<br \/>\nThe Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) that funds special services for people with disabilities will be repealed.<br \/>\nPeople receiving food stamps (SNAP) will see their monthly assistance reduced; 2 million people will be denied SNAP help altogether.<br \/>\nPlease call your Representative and urge him\/her to vote \u201cNO\u201d on the reconciliation bill.<\/p>\n<p>What to Say:<br \/>\nPlease vote against the House Budget Reconciliation bill.<br \/>\nDeficit reduction cannot be achieved solely through more spending cuts for programs that serve people with disabilities and other low income populations.<br \/>\nRevenues must be part of the equation.<\/p>\n<p>Use the <a href=\"http:\/\/capwiz.com\/thearc\/home\/\">Arc&#8217;s Capwiz <\/a>tool to send an email &#8212; easily!
