{"id":279,"date":"2009-01-31T07:06:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-31T07:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/susansenator.com\/blog2\/2009\/01\/the-most-important-meal-of-the-day\/"},"modified":"2009-01-31T07:06:00","modified_gmt":"2009-01-31T07:06:00","slug":"the-most-important-meal-of-the-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/susansenator.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/the-most-important-meal-of-the-day\/","title":{"rendered":"The Most Important Meal of the Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">This is a day of independence,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">For all the Munchkins, <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">And their descendants.<\/span><br \/>&#8212; Mayor of the Munchkin City, In the County of the Land of Oz<\/p>\n<p>Five years ago, I wrote <a href=\"http:\/\/susansenator.com\/homealone.html\">this piece for the New York Times<\/a>.<br \/>Here&#8217;s what happened today while I just sat here drinking my coffee, lazing around with Ned:<br \/>Nat came downstairs, dressed and ready for his day.<br \/>He greeted us, and went to the freezer and pulled out the bagel bag.<br \/>He selected a raisin bagel and put it in the microwave for 30 seconds.<br \/>Closed and returned the bagel bag to the freezer.<br \/>He took out the (pre-split at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.finagleonline.com\/locations.php\">Finagle-A-Bagel<\/a>) bagel and put it in the toaster.<br \/>When the toaster popped, Nat got out his bagel, and went for a plate in the glass cabinet.<br \/>The stack of plates were topped by a colander (different placement than usual) so he closed the cabinet.<br \/>Thought for a moment, then opened the plate drawer in the island.<br \/>Went for the butter.  Upon opening the butter dish, he noticed it was full of pale yellow smears but no butter.<br \/>He went back to the fridge with the butter dish in hand.<br \/>He stopped and stared at the open fridge.<br \/><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">At this point I had to practically tie myself down to keep from assisting, but I waited, quietly&#8230;<\/span><br \/>He saw more butter in the cheese drawer.<br \/>He noticed that these were half-sticks of butter (different) and so he slid them back into the box.<br \/><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">At this point I called out, &#8220;Nat, those are okay butter.  They&#8217;re just smaller.&#8221;<\/span><br \/>But I guess we all know that half-sticks are just not right.  Nat put them back.
