Food But No Thought

Summer’s here
and I’m for that.
–James Taylor

I was walking the Res with my friend L today and we discussed how rotten Atkins has made us feel. Yes, we were at pretty good weights, but we felt like sh**. Nightly upset stomachs, meat and cheese and meat and cheese and salads. Boring, boring. Blech.

I have decided that for this week I will only do portion control and count calories (and a ton of exercise, of course). I started today. I felt so virtuous I went to Bloomingdales and bought a new ruby red bikini. Then I took the boys out to lunch at their favorite place, Zaftigs. They had breakfast food (fat challah french toast and pancakes) and I had a grilled portabello mushroom burger and ate the roll. Oh, glorious, foodgasm. I had fruit and yogurt for dinner and just knew I was fine because the cals are low. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Packed up and got really tired figuring out the bike rack. Drove to the Cape in less than two hours, with a candy-colored sunset followed by a moon that looked like “a vanilla cupcake,” according to Ben (he is a great writer already!). Smooth ride in newly cleaned car with four brand new tires that were free because the company has a guarantee! Happy silly talk in my ear, animated Kingdom Hearts talk in my other ear, and lots of catching up with N.S. Our anniversary is in two days. We always celebrate it here, with our favorite people, in our favorite spot on earth and our favorite time of the year.

When I was starting out trying to lose weight someone commented and told me to look into fitday.com. Now I jot down my foods there and it does everything for me.

Just to show you what it tracks, I keep a public journal, my address is:

Good luck. Weight loss is hard, sometimes you need to shake it up to keep your body losing. I worry sometimes that as time goes by, will I plateau and have to make major changes to keep losing? But for now I am not going to worry about it. I’m in the early stages and not plateauing yet.

I did order a netflix on belly dancing though, I have been looking for something fun and different to strengthen up my mid section.

Yay, Jan! Tell me how you like it! My favorite BD performance dvd is Bellydance Superstars Live at the Folies Bergere. My favorite BD work out DVD is Sonia and Issam the Art of the Drum Solo.

Thanks for the fitday.com tip, Jan. I am waging a permanent battle with my weight and have recently started running again after a long break from it. To make my weight loss quest more difficult, I have been put onto an antidepressant that has as a side effect increased appetite. And this morning I woke up with a cold – yeuch. Anyway, I’m off to check out fitday.com.

BTW, Susan, I forgot to wish you a happy (early) anniversary! 🙂

Haven’t seen fitday before…been using myfooddiary.com (same concept it sounds like). I’ve been very happy since I’ve been using it. I have battled weight issues my entire life. (Long story I may wrote about one day.) Tries Atkins, WW, you name it…always felt like I was stuck with what someone else told me I should do. Keeping a food diary/joural and figuring out why I eat bad things (and recognizing which ones trigger MORE cravings, ugh!) lets me be in control while not feeling like I am missing out on “normal” living…that haopens in far too many areas of my life, thank you very much!

Ditto on the anniversary wishes. How many years together are you celebrating?

I am temporarily cured of any desire for food. If I never see food again I will be happy. If anyone wants to know why, here’s the explanation.

Am I the only person who finds the idea of going to a restaurant called Zaftig’s while thinking about weight loss, hilarious?

Touche, Ballastexistenz! But they have great veggie stuff, and I am no worse off for having gone!

N.S.?

N.S. = Neddy Sweets, back when I was channeling Veronica Lodge, who called Archie, “Archie Sweets.” Now I have a little more Betty in me, I think.
