Warning: This is an utterly shallow, lovesick post written on a wintry vacation day thinking about the summer (see pic on right, Wellfleet, Mass. ahhhhh).
I have not (yet) had occasion to be jealous that my husband’s attention has strayed to other people. But one thing I do know: I have always come second to his love of math. Ned is the first one whom I ever heard use the term, “recreational math.” I am strictly right-brained, liberal arts (heavy emphasis on liberal, but that’s another post altogether), so I thought, “whoo-hoo! Fun with numbers. Where do I sign up?” So, in college, where we first met, (25 years ago) I had to pretend to be interested in polyhedra in order to get his attention. But look at this guy. Can you blame me?
(Also, for extra points, can you guess what object has been cropped from this photo?)

Ummm,
Slide rule?
Graphing calculator?
Susan, that’s a very cute fellow you got there…
π
My person weird fellow has the most beautiful blue eyes on the planet. Ned would be a close second.
(Hint to future parents: If you have synaesthesia do NOT have kids with someone who is obsessively interested in math. a+b=autistic offspring. Unless, of course, you want autistic offspring. It’s even scarier if one of you has a big head, which Susan and Ned don’t seem to have.)
ooops, “my personal weird fellow” not “person weird fellow”… father of both of my kids. One ASD one normal one.
Exactly right, Camille. I have synaesthesia,(http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4375977.stm thanks to Autism Diva) and Ned is, as you see…total math geek. We have one definite autie and one just a little “dusted” with it.
I am strictly right-brained, liberal arts
We must be related ;o)
can you guess what object has been cropped from this photo?
Is it this?
NB: British humour – its not meant to be offensive ;o)
Hey Kev,
Good guess! But no. I will let it be for a little longer before I tell you… (gotta get readers somehow, right?)
Yes, I have often thought that we might be related! π
I’ve also got a touch of synaesthesia.
I guess the odds were against us…
So…does Ned have a single, unattached brother in his 40’s? Hmmm???
-Susan, the socially inept,
mother to twins Autumn (nt) and Jakob(autistic)
…guess which twin I can relate to better…
Hi Susan,
Ned does have a very good-looking brother in his early 40’s, but he’s also married! Very happily, too…
Hi Susan,
What a handome guy indeed! Hmmmm what has been cropped from the photo, maybe a SketchPad or Laptop? Maybe a book about Great Mathematicians? Just guesses:)
The prize goes to KC’s mom! It is the laptop that has been cropped! I wanted to see what he looked like without it! π
He is hot! But not that surprising because you are stunning! How do you manage to take such good care of yourself with everything you have going on? You’re an inspiration, that’s for sure.
Massachusetts Mom π
Ned without glasses! It took a minute for me to figure out what was different.
Booo! Get a room you two!
The shame. Posting about his unruly windswept hair, rugged beard, blue eyes you could get lost in, tight little butt….
Sorry, I seem to have lost my train of thought.
Susan, once again a post of yours leaves me itching to post a response and yet, all I got is “Yikes!”
I actually thought that you cropped the photo cuz Ned wuz nekkid from the waist down…
Oh man, I am giving my head images I don’t need to have!
Curse you Susan Senator!
Kudla,
What a wonderful thought! However, he was appropriately dressed in shorts and he had his trusty laptop out, which I got rid of, because I get so sick of seeing that thing (the laptop, I mean)!
