O, For a Bagel

By far
The thing I miss most
Is a fat shiny salt bagel,
With just the right crunch of toast.

No cream cheese
I can always eat that
No, with real butter
pale yellow, soft with fat.

Rounded halves
Sit buttock-like on a plate
The crystalline salt, tiny diamonds
Why do I have to gain weight?

Butter-soaked spongey bites
Between my teeth, rough on my tongue
Finished far too soon
My paean now sung.

Oh, Susan…. you should be able to eat whatever you want! Just take an extra spinning class, and you’re good – really. It’s all about the balance. Treat yourself once in a while. Otherwise, what’s the point?

We get mini-bagels. The twins (3 years old) love them. C.’s first true functional conversation was a disagreement with her daddy about whether or not she would get her bagel before she finished her banana. (She did not. As soon as the last bite of banana went in the mouth, a muffled cry of “Bagel!” came out.)

Dear Anon,
What’s the point, indeed? I ate like a total pig today at Christmas; how could I not, with those cookies??
I should have had the bagel, too.

You absolutely should have had the bagel. 🙂

Next Christmas, give yourself the gift of treating yourself to a bagel, and blog that!
