To My Sister

Sitting here waiting for my coffee
A new morning opens, shaking off its damp birth
My throat is tight and my mind is already searching — what is it?
I see you, just behind my eyes, and I remember.
You helped bring him here.
Cheering at one leg while Ned cheered at the other
You were there when he came into the world
It is just so good that you will be here when he goes off into the world.

Aw, Susan. Your posts about this are just so heartbreaking. He leaves in 10 days, correct? I’m so glad Laura will be there to help you through this.
