Parents Magazine Dives Into Autism Adulthood

This article from Parents Magazine uses some of the research I did on autism adulthood statistics (costs, limited resources, day program/Medicaid info) as well as a brief Nat story and reference to my book. Keep in mind this is a mainstream media venue, serving people who generally know very little about autism, especially in terms of adulthood issues. Parents wanted it to be a call to arms, so its tone is a bit panicky. Still, I believe we need to shock the world into caring and doing something for our guys in adulthood.

Loved your Post article on registering National. I registered my son Max in 2012; in Nevada, I just had to fill out a regular voter registration card, and just present him on election day to election workers that he is autistic and would potentially he would need my help. They gave him a card and into the booth went. Both myself and his sister are very politically active so Max knew who was President, and that he would be voting for his re-election. When we finshed, I introduced him to everyone in the polling station that he has autism and was voting for the very first time. He gleefully shouted, “and I voted for President Obama!” Everyone gave him a big round of applause. I took a picture and sent it o Ed Shultz’s show on MSNBC show that night. He caucused with me for a Bernie Sanders last month. He was asking me questions about Donald Trump last week it is glorious. Go for it!
